Happy New Year

A big fat happy new year my friends! How was your night?
I do have to say I'm ready for detox that's for sure! Food and alcohol gluttony. The short break went by way too fast and I didn't get any of the stuff done that I wanted to, I even still have my Christmas decor up. Drives me nuts.
And on another note we are broke. Did I mention that our heat broke right before Christmas? I think I did. And that was right after we had just replaced our dryer. Well, last Saturday our hot water heater died too and it turns out we had to get one of the more expensive ones since we have natural gas. This is so frustrating when stuff like that happens right around Christmas. Ain't nobody have time (or money) for that, right?
And then my shoulder/arm problems haven't really gotten taken care of either because I have a $400 deductible, which makes me feel like a car. So I'm done venting and welcoming the new year with a lot of enthusiasm.

Besides all the complaining up there, I had a really good Christmas with our little family. We always have fondue on Christmas eve and then unwrap our gifts. That's just how you do it in Germany.

I got lots of things that I really wanted. Yay! Hubby bought them before stuff started breaking ;)

Should I share with you? Well some of you have seen the treasures already on Instagram but I'll share here again.

I got the fox (or I think it's a wolf) door knocker that I wanted so badly. And my hubby drove to Philly to buy it for me on Craigslist. The guy who sold it told him that it was from the home of the artist Andrew Wyeth. Sounds like a great story but there is no documentation to back up that story and I think that he was fibbing. It is definitely a unique large and heavy piece of brass though. I have no clue how to hang it on my door. My current door knocker is messing up my plans. Darn screw holes that don't line up and are exposed.

I also got a brass swan and tiger. Love the tiger especially.

I wanted this nuLOOM  shag so badly too and guess what, I got it! I'm a huge fan of the original Morrocan rugs but they are made out of wool and that is so hard to clean with my cats and kids.  And of course way more expensive. Did you know that the natural fibers stain much more? That's why I use natural cotton fabrics for when I paint fabric. Synthetic fibers are great on rugs for cleaning at least in my book.
I'm so excited to tell you that I got a large disco ball too. My hubby drove all the way to NYC to pick one up for me. How sweet is that?

And I received my lip print that I wanted so badly. I'm totally loving it. I did feel awful though because Jen from "Made by Girl" commented on my one Instagram photo asking if my brush stroke art was her Coco&Hearts artwork and I had to tell her that I'm a darn copy cat. So embarrassing! I hope she is a little flattered though. I mean a lot of people have copied the black and white brush stroke art too that is also being sold at West Elm for example. And I never lied about who the art idea came from in my post. I know…I'm trying to talk myself out of this situation. She'll probably hate me forever! Ugh!

I had fun photographing my things. Don't know if I will keep the lip print where it is right now though and in case you are wondering, the black and white pillows are from H&M home and you can find them HERE.

I'm so so happy with all my presents and the kiddos are way too spoiled too. They had the best Christmas ever.

If you missed my 2013 Flipagram video on Facebook (the one I had on Instagram was way shorter) then you can see it by clicking HERE or the 2014 below. For some reason it didn't let me upload it onto my blog from youtube.

How was your holiday? I know it's not all about the presents. This post totally sounded superficial. I did enjoy our family time on Christmas Eve, just the four of us together the most ;)

Come back on Friday because I have planned a very silly post.

Tschüß

Our living room in one year

FRIDAY and Christmas is only a couple of days away. I'm pretty much over seeing Christmas craft ideas everywhere, aren't you? I think everyone is done decorating by no, right? Or not?

For today, I thought I'd show you how I achieved a different look in our living room by only changing out a few little things here and there throughout the year.

Ready?

This photo here is of our living room Christmas 2012 (click HERE to see the full tour, which makes me sad because Harry is lying under the tree and I miss him so much).

And this is almost the same view for this year's Christmas living room (click HERE for full tour):

Last year was all about gray and white. This year I have more colors and added some black to the mix.

I thought I'd also show you the evolution of how this came together throughout the year.

It started with little tiny spots of colors here and there. You can barely see them:

Then came the brush stroke canvas art (click HERE) and the turquoise Ikea pillows:

Oh and do you spy my radiant orchid blanket on the right? ;)
If you missed it that is the Pantone color of the year for 2014, ha I got it covered!

Ohhh and I started to get even braver with the orange and pink box makeover (click HERE) ;) , some additional pink Ikea pillows and some animal pillows. All for the summer!

Looks like summer, doesn't it?

Hey and for Halloween the black made an appearance with my thrifted black and gold lamp, the crow pillow, the grumpy cat pillow and some black and white accents. I also added the auction starburst over the mirror.

A lot more going on, right?

Well and this is how I ended up with our Christmas decor for this year. Still the same room and Christmas decor as last year but some small changes that I think give a big impact.

Love the sparkly new H&M pillows on the sofa by the way!

The chevron lamp shades are living in the man cave right now and I added some
black lampshades with gold lining from Target. I really love them!

I really like seeing how this room has changed in one year and I could probably do a post like this about every room because color has made it's way more and more into our home this year.

I have also gotten a lot braver and just go with what I like without worrying about what other people like. I look at the beginning of 2012 of our living room now and think pretty but kind of boring. I really am glad I changed it up a bit.
This post also proves that you don't need to buy a ton of new furniture to get a different look. The sofa, rug, end tables and coffee table are still the same, just the small items have changed, which barely cost a thing ;)

I'm thinking of coming up with a similar post about the rest of our house for Monday. Should I?

Have a great weekend. I will try to enjoy our Christmas home before it will all be over already next week. I hate cleaning up Christmas decor. It actually depresses me because another year has come to it's end.

Tschüß and see you on Monday.

Jingle Mingle: Origami Diamond Jingle Bell Ornament

{If you want to see our Christmas home tour click HERE}

Well hello there friends. It's time for the Jingle Mingle with:

I had my project today all mapped out in my head for the Jingle Mingle and was super excited to start on it. I envisioned these adorable white origami animals. A fox, a squirrel, an owl and maybe a cat with a ribbon and jingle bells around their necks as ornaments.

I went to work cheerfully with my 7 year old daughter. Christmas music was playing, we were singing…and then that's when you hear the screech in the theme…The online instructions we found didn't work clearly. My daughter was crying because she couldn't do it. She ended up having an upset stomach and a melt down! And I was ready to rip my hair out because all I had to show for was a disheveled pile of paper and a not so cute fox.

What a mess! LOL
Then Katja from Shift Ctrl Art came to my rescue with the idea of these paper diamonds she had found on Pinterest. Loved the idea! THANK YOU!

This worked out so much better.
I'm not having an in depth tutorial either because all you have to do is head on over to DESIGN AND FORM (click HERE), make different sized diamonds according to the instructions. Then I added the bells and ribbons with a needle and thread. Just like attaching a button to clothing. THAT'S IT!

And it cost me 97 cents, because the jingle bells were from Goodwill. They were actually from 1988, ha. The paper was plain printer paper that I already had. And I also had the ribbon already but you can find that for cheap at any craft store ;)

So now I have some photos to show you how cute they actually turned out. I can totally picture an entire tree with them. Just imagine how cheap that would be.

Blowing in the wind outside. Snow everywhere!

They look great with my window ornaments.

Or in our tree.

And now:

Go check out what everyone else did. I have a feeling it will be good and thanks again Katja for saving my project ;) Friends to the rescue…yay!
