I have more news. As of now, we are not moving. Which makes my head spin because there are so many things that I want to tackle.
I went right to it with our powder room. I've been wanting to redo it for sooo long. Can you believe that it's been 10 years since I painted that room. That is long for a girl who likes change. I was pregnant with my son and it took me forever to measure and tape off all those diamonds. My hubby loves that pattern and always said no to the re-painting. I already mentioned that he doesn't do well with change.
It is so outdated and I'm very excited to finally get my hands on it.

Look at the dork in the mirror (aka myself)!
I'm not sure about what I want to do in there exactly but I have some ideas. Guess I just have to make up my mind.
And I'd like to work with what we have. I can't rip out the vanity since the flooring was built around that boring standard builder's cabinet and we don't want to redo the floor. I do like the storage the cabinet offers and I will redo the vinyl kick plate. Can't stand those!

Yuck!
After ripping out the plain mirror, I realized that the light is hanging way too low for my craigslist mirror that I wanted to hang instead. So I either have to buy a different mirror or have someone hang the light higher. But I really love the mirror:

And I have to fix all the holes left behind by the mirror
In case you are wondering how I removed the glued mirror, all I had to do is put a putty knife behind it and slowly start to move it against the mirror. Eventually it popped of in one piece.
I will hopefully be able to get the sanding of the walls done this week, to hide all the lines. And then prime them with some good primer. I think a clean slate is good for applying some new ideas.
There are also several ideas floating in my head for the vanity top. Lets see!
I was so excited to find out that we finally have a "Restore" (Habitat for Humanity) location but when I went there this weekend I was so disappointed. I don't know if it's just me or our area but their prices were ridiculous. Way too expensive! At those prices I'd rather buy new stuff. Do you have any experience with them? If so, please do tell!
Lets see how much I can get done this week. I was also thinking about going to some counter top places to get estimates for our kitchen counters. So much stuff to do and never enough time.
Talk to you on Wednesday.

i love your red mirror, too an i think the light should be rehung so you can use it- it's too awesome!
ReplyDeleteand we have a restore as well, and i feel the same way about it!!!! ugh!
I'm thinking the same ;) Cassie
DeleteMaybe, the Restore just needs to load up on stuff before they drop prices. Ours is pretty big and usually has lots of furniture. That being said, if you want a desk you can find one for $5. If you want end tables (they might only have 2) then you might pay $30. It seems to be that the more they have the cheaper it is. Maybe that just happens in Springfield, MO? =) Hopefully, prices will fall in your area.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe they'll drop their prices then...I sure hope so!
DeleteYAY!!! So glad I won!! Those diamonds must have taken you forever! I LOVE our Restore but I think they're different everywhere you go - prices, what they have, etc...
ReplyDeleteYay!
DeleteYes it took forever ;)
Hi, Julia! Love Karl from your earlier post ;)I have emailed you through your contact page here, but I don't know if you got it. I wanted to feature you on great reads tomorrow. Let me know if this is okay with you.

Wow, thank Kristin...I didn't get it. What the heck! I have to check all my mail folders.
DeleteIt won't let me respond to the email you just sent either. But, if you want to send me a link to one of your favorite projects I would love to feature that too. Yay! xo Kristin
DeleteI hope you received my email that I sent to you about an hour ago.
DeleteI see why your husband didn't want to change the bath..it is beautiful but I also know that you will make it beautiful again!
ReplyDeleteThat young man of yours is just the most handsome young man!
Our Habitat prices are great and when I want to negotiate they seem willing most of the time.
Thanks Karen, he is the love of my life ;)
DeleteWell, I guess I have to try to negotiate with them.
I hope you can make the Craigslist mirror work in the bathroom - it's so beautiful and would break up the squareness of the vanity! Even if you can't make it work, I can't wait to see what you do :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Caitlin, I'm trying my hardest to get the light moved. Finding a good, affordable electrician is the next challenge ;) I hate electrical work.
DeleteLOVE that mirror!
ReplyDeleteThanks! You just got rid of all your orange!
DeleteI'm impressed with the diamond painting. Oh my. Can't wait to see what you do!
ReplyDeleteOur Restore is actually pretty reasonably priced!
Thanks and I guess I can still have hope for our Restore ;)
DeleteFound your blog via Bliss, you have a beautiful blog (and home). I too have a powder room that needs a little face-lift. Bummer about the mirror..its such a fun piece. Maybe moving the light wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Looking forward to seeing it come together. I am a new follower.
ReplyDeleteHi Christina, thanks so much. I still didn't give up on moving the light.
